About Grace Missionary Baptist Church

In September 2013, Pastor Daron Hawkins left Zion Wheel Missionary Baptist Church after serving 16 years. Pastor Hawkins was called to lead Grace Missionary Baptist Church, which is an extension of East Union Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Hawkins shared a special bond with Pastor Paul Roberts and East Union Missionary Baptist Church. Many Zion Wheel MBC members supported and followed Pastor Hawkins to Grace MBC.

Pastor Hawkins and wife, Dawna Hawkins were very excited about God’s vision for Grace MBC. Our mission as a New Testament church was to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, by studying His holy word and expounding upon His truths. We vowed to stand boldly on His word, exalt the Savior, equip the Saints, and exhort the Sinner. We also vowed to be a beacon of light in these dark times, so that men can see Jesus in us and the Father can be glorified. In doing this, Jesus may be lifted up and draw all men unto Him. Pastor Hawkins created a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere for all to worship. Under his leadership several ministries evolved: Women of Worship (W.O.W), Outreach, Youth, Media, and Hospitality. Our events consisted of October Fall Fest, Sarcadosis Awareness, Family Fun Bowling, and Let’s Get Geared on the bike trail. Family and Friends Day was held in September.

On July 25, 2017, our beloved Pastor Hawkins passed away unexpectedly. Minister Avery Campbell served as the Interim Pastor during this transition. The Pastoral Committee was elected by Grace MBC members. The committee consisted of Vera Bell, Lisa Spence, Arthur Cottrell, Hurlen Cottrell and Stanley Hawkins. The Pastoral Committee and East Union met to discuss the process to select a new pastor. Through prayer and after much consideration of all the applicants, God blessed us with a new shepherd, Pastor Rodney Akins. Grace MBC welcomed Pastor Akins and First Lady Sundra Akins to the Grace family on December 24, 2017.
